1. Print Analysis

A. Critical Areas – Do Not Support

  • The most important location on the surgical guide is the interior area where the teeth touch. This area must be printed without supports touching it in order to achieve optimum fitting. That side will be facing upwards, and as such will not be supported.

B. Minimal Support Area

  • Since the fitting area will not be supported, the reverse side will be completely supported. The sleeve areas will have tools and casing added, so it is preferred to not have supports on them when possible. On this area, use as few supports as possible, but still make sure the print is properly affixed to the build platform.

C. Main Support Area

  • Add supports to the entire rest of the smooth surface as necessary. Windowed areas can be supported as well, due to the support marks not affecting vision or tool working room.

2. Orientation

A. Angle the print so that the molar side of the guide is closer to the platform, and the side closer to the incisors is raised.

  • Angle: 10-15°

B. Raise the part off the platform.

  • Height : 1.8 – 2.5 mm

3. Supports

This type of print works best with many tiny supports, rather than a few large supports. Since surgical guide resins are quite strong, using smaller supports will leave less support marks and still sufficiently hold the prints.

Support Parameters

  • Top Radius: 0.30 mm – 0.45 mm
  • Bottom Radius: 0.50 mm – 0.80 mm
  • Omega 3D Setting: 0.33 mm – Guide, RPD, Jewelry


Ackuretta recommends starting this print using Automatic Supports.
After the majority of the supports are made, use Manual Supports to remove some unnecessary supports on the sleeves, and any supports that intersect with the part. In this manner, you will not be able to remove all of the sleeve supports, but with small supports like this, after cutting supports, you should be able to attach your sleeves without difficulty.

4. Base

Ackuretta recommends adding a base to almost all supported prints. Adding a base allows the print to stick to the build platform securely, and it makes the print easier to remove during post processing.

  • Base Thickness: 0.150 mm – 0.250 mm
  • To add a base in Omega 3D, go to the BASE tab, and then click Add Base.


A thicker base does not improve print performance. A base of 0.400 mm or thicker may even make a print less likely to succeed.

5. Print

In Omega 3D, select your Machine and Resin from the Project tab on the left side. Then go to the Slice tab to select your Material profile. Your material profile contains the layer thickness and may be calibrated for specific types of prints.

  • Burn-In Layer Curing Time: ×3 curing time

6. Finishing

After printing, clean, dry, and cut your print supports.

  • Cleaning Alcohol: Ethyl alcohol (95%) or isopropyl alcohol (99%)
  • Ultrasonic Cleaner or Soak Time: 2 minutes
  • Suggested UV Oven: Ackuretta UV Oven
  • Suggested UV Oven Time: 30 seconds, flip, and then another 30 seconds
